Title Senior Systems Safety Engineer Job Summary Our client is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

  • Support safety analysis of our Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). The multiple programs in development support  the US Army and US Air Force, along with many other US and Foreign customers.
  •  In this role, the successful candidate will work on an integrated Reliability and Safety team to support both  customer risk acceptance, and airworthiness requirements.
  •  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  •  Specific technical experience and knowledge should include ability to familiarize yourself with MIL-STD-882, operation and processes of System Safety Working Groups, and other related milestones such as PDR’s and CDR’s.
  • Development of a System Safety Program Plan, Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Functional Hazard Analysis, System Safety Analysis / Safety Assessment Report, clear and concise system safety requirements, and support of the Hazard Tracking System.
  • Understands the methods of identifying and categorizing Safety-Significant (safety-critical and safety-related) functions and their affects within the hardware, software, and human interfaces of the design architecture.
  • Perform Fault Tree Analyses (Relex experience a plus).
  • The ability to learn multiple aircraft subsystems to become an expert on how the systems as work as a whole.
  • Provide human factors technical expertise on topics such as advanced user-interface technology development or the role of human users in automated or autonomous sub-systems in advanced vehicle systems.
  • Analyze complex systems to determine potential for further development, production, interoperability, compatibility, or usefulness in a particular area, such as aviation.
  • Advocate for end users in collaboration with other professionals including engineers, designers, managers, or customers.
  • Conduct interviews or surveys of users or customers to collect information on topics such as requirements, needs, fatigue, ergonomics, or interfaces.
  • Prepare reports or presentations summarizing results or conclusions of human factors engineering or ergonomics activities, such as testing, investigation, or validation.
  • Perform functional, task, or anthropometric analysis, using tools such as checklists, surveys, videotaping or force measurement.
  • Support Reliability & Maintainability analyses as required.
Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, four or more years of experience with a master’s degree, or two or more years with a PhD.
  • Defense acquisition experience and knowledge a plus.
  • Experience with Unmanned Vehicles systems a plus.
  • Develop and present technical presentations.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and, lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • A Professional Engineering License and original work published in professional engineering journals are desirable.
