POSITION OBJECTIVES:

The Part Metadata Manager is responsible for making Solar’s engineering software, Windchill, searchable by managing the part classification and attribute schema, naming conventions (taxonomy), and Solar’s Technical Dictionary.

The enterprise user group utilizes the Part Metadata Manager to solve part taxonomy issues and resolve PartsLink/Windchill software functionality issues.  Additionally, the Part Metadata Manager represents the business focus in the overall Taxonomy Governance Program, leads the Taxonomy Governance Team, and facilitates continuous improvement and innovation for part metadata related functionality.

Successful candidates must be influential and respected in order to work across worldwide business organizations and solution for known and future business needs. This position is responsible for providing day to direction to end users and for providing training within the end user community. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define and maintain Part Taxonomy Schema & Technical Dictionary
  • Comply with all administrator access guidelines in applicable software
  • Lead Taxonomy Governance Program & Team
  • Manage relationship with PTC, supplier of Windchill software, for all PartsLink related topics
  • Manage relationships within multiple functional areas across Solar enterprise business units
  • Maximize business value of part classification and attribute metadata
  • Publish relevant data to appropriate levels in organization
  • Expertise with taxonomies and business rules related to manufacturing, production and aftermarket parts
  • Resolve complex problems and make sound decisionsWork independently to develop approaches and solutions
  • May direct and review work of others and independently determine technical and quality objectives

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITES

Create and Maintain Taxonomy Schema: Design and maintain the Part Taxonomy Schema. Manage schema integrity and usability for the enterprise.

Create and Maintain Solar Technical Dictionary: Define and document all relevant terms, abbreviations, etc.; provide method(s) of access.

Manage Taxonomy Governance: Manage cross functional solution generation across the enterprise utilizing the experts on the Taxonomy Governance Team and IT. Also responsible for finding and engaging the appropriate SMEs to staff the Taxonomy Governance Team.

Define business performance and relevant metrics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a college degree or equivalent. 3-5 years prior experience in enterprise applications, technical marketing, supply chain, manufacturing, or engineering is preferred.

  • Knowledge of part lifecycle management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal management directive
  • A strong sense of integrity and the ability to execute with little direction is required.
  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Willing to learn new software, processes, and skills with positive energy
  • Willing to take initiative to improve processes, lead teams, and drive results
  • Proven project management/implementation skills
  • Windchill or other PTC product experience is preferred
