Centrally located company in San Diego looking for a Laser Operator

Contract to hire opportunity

Set-up and operate a variety of automatic and semi-automatic machines used in the production of the company’s product; works from travelers given by supervisor to perform production task such as operating Seam Seal machine (resistance welder) and Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (YAG) lasers to seal parts; use CO2 in laser machines to cut, scribe or mark components; checks and inspects operation against predetermined tolerances; performs work of low to moderate-complexity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES:

  1. Set-up machines to process parts using existing programs; conduct trial runs and adjust program or refer to Supervisor or Master Operator as a resource, as necessary.
  2. Visually inspect incoming assemblies and identify non-compliant parts; process parts per process or procedures as designated on the traveler.
  3. Perform post-seal inspection or clean and inspect machined parts.
  4. Perform data entry as needed to track parts through department.
  5. Continuously monitor, load and unload vacuum bake ovens; verify leak rates.
  6. Maintain workstation and tools.
  7. Participate in safety training and actively comply with safety policies and practices.
  8. Improve and maintain 5S in your area; make suggestions for improvements.
  9. Participate in Lean/Six Sigma activities in own work area as well as events for other areas to enhance cross-functional problem solving.
  10. Collaborate in team meetings and activities, including SET team support as appropriate.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Three (3) years of related machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment, desired; detail-oriented, with good manual dexterity, have good hand-eye coordination; high school diploma or equivalent, required; 
  2. Communication skills: ability to ask questions and rephrase statements to clarify meaning; ability to read and comprehend simple instructions; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to read, interpret and comprehend complex written and verbal instructions, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS); ability to communicate with quality, integrity and respect in a way that inspires others and encourages innovation and possibilities; proficient  English reading level to understand technical terminology used within the organization;
  3. Computer skills:  working knowledge of MS Office with Outlook, Excel, Word; exposure to Enterprise-wide systems such as SAP.
  4. Equipment skills: knowledge of proper and safe use of equipment, chemicals, tools, etc.; knowledge of procedures related to safety;
  5. Math skills; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all unit of measure; ability to measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to understand and perform decimal, fraction and metric calculations and conversion; ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs;
  6. Time Management and Organizational skills: flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to cope with rapidly changing priorities; ability to prioritize workload on a daily basis;
  7.
